Our Challenge Curriculum
Here at Blackheath Primary School, we provide a challenging curriculum where every subject is sequentially planned and progressive to build upon key knowledge and skills. Our topics are driven by the programmes of study set out in the National Curriculum and we ‘Launch into our learning’ with an overarching Enquiry Question which encompasses the key concept and theme, tying in all of the children’s learning together.
Every Topic has a ‘memorable experience’ which is an enrichment activity to launch the topic and engage the children, these consist of external visits, workshops and in-house activities.
Our ‘Marvellous Middle’ takes place after half term to relaunch the children’s learning and is a range of innovative experiences alongside retrieval practice to ensure our children continue to build upon their existing knowledge.
Finally, our ‘Fabulous Finish Festival’ is a celebratory exhibition, showcasing all of the learning that has taken place. Parents and Carers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to visit the school to see a selection of work produced by the children throughout their topic.
Below, is our menu of topics linked to the National Curriculum which details what each year group will learn.
