Zero Tolerance

Zero Tolerance Statement

At Blackheath Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of our school community — including pupils, staff, parents, carers, and visitors.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of:

  • Abuse, aggression, or intimidation — verbal or physical
  • Bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind
  • Threatening or violent behaviour, whether in person, via telephone, email, or social media

Legal and Statutory Framework

This statement aligns with our obligations under:

  • The Education Act 1996 – Section 547, which makes it an offence to cause a nuisance or disturbance on school premises.
  • The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 – which places a duty on employers to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of employees and others.
  • The Equality Act 2010 – which protects staff and pupils from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation.
  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (DfE 2023) – which outlines schools' duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • DfE Guidance: Controlling access to school premises (2018) – which clarifies the headteacher’s authority to regulate school premises and manage the behaviour of visitors.

Unacceptable Behaviour Includes (but is not limited to):

  • Shouting, swearing, or using offensive language
  • Physical intimidation or threats
  • Aggressive or confrontational body language
  • Discriminatory comments (racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.)
  • Posting defamatory or hostile content about the school or staff online
  • Refusing to follow instructions from staff

Our Response

Any individual who behaves in an unacceptable way may be:

  • Asked to leave the premises immediately
  • Banned from school premises, either temporarily or permanently
  • Reported to the police or relevant authorities
  • Subject to formal action under the school's complaints, safeguarding, or disciplinary procedures

Working Together

We expect all members of our school community to treat one another with courtesy, kindness, and mutual respect. Working in partnership helps us ensure the school remains a positive, safe place for children to learn and thrive.

Thank you for supporting our values and upholding the respectful environment we are committed to maintaining.
